Lake Watonga Fishing

Trout fishing is especially popular in the winter at Lake Watonga. From November 1 through March 31, the lake is stocked with trout. And during the spring and summer months, this lake is home to several trout tournaments. The average trout here weighs 3-4 pounds, but they can grow to be as large as 6-8 pounds. Lake Watonga has the distinction of being the location where a state record rainbow trout was caught. In addition to the trout, you have the opportunity to catch largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, channel catfish, black crappie, white crappie, and rainbow trout. Because it sits in a canyon, the scenery at Lake Watonga is filled with beautiful cliffs and streams. It’s easy to access the shore for fishing and there’s a boat ramp on the west side for those who want to get out on the water.
